About Me

Selena Delainey -

BSc, BEd (University of Victoria)

Welcome to my tutoring website! I hope to connect with you soon.

My name is Selena Delainey, I am a BC Certified Educator, specializing in science and mathematics for grades 7-12. I have been a lifelong lover of STEM. My mother could tell you many stories about my curiosity for the natural world as a young child, whether that be fervently observing earthworms crawling around in our garden, fascination and wonder with a homemade baking soda volcano, or the countless "why" questions leading to many trips to the local library. Since that young age, my passion and curiosity have only grown! My high school chemistry teacher inspired me to pursue science at the post secondary level, and I received a BSc in Chemistry from UVic in 2023. I am proud to say I have graduated with a diversity of coursework from physics to math to biology to computer science (as well as chemistry of course!) and maintained a B+/A- GPA throughout my entire degree. Throughout my degree (and in grade 11/12) I have done science tutoring for students in middle and high school in Victoria.

I also have a long history with working with youth! I began babysitting at the age of 12, and then at 16 took lifeguarding and swim instructing courses and began working at a local rec center (Juan de Fuca, then later SEAPARC) teaching swim lessons to children (and families) of all ages. Over the years I have also taught the Babysitters course, which included creating and utilizing my own curriculum materials. Through this job, I have worked with a diverse group of kids, including those who are neurodivergent, speak other languages, and have other physical or cognitive disabilities. I've also been a volunteer youth leader at a local church since I was 19 (and still do it today!) In this youth group, I have worked with youth aged 12-17 years old and am encouraged daily by the amazing things these youth have accomplished in their lives, and am grateful to be able to be a part of their lives; supporting them in their journey into adulthood. Needless to say, I have a lot of passion for helping young people become the best they can be!

My diverse experiences and years of joy I have gotten from working with youth led me to becoming an educator! I completed UVic's Secondary Teacher post degree program in December of 2024, and loved my practicums! I received excellent practicum reports from my mentor teachers and field advisors, many of whom said my ability to connect with and teach youth is beyond my years of experience, and it is apparent that I have a strong work ethic, genuine passion, and dedication to see all learners succeed.

I know I have what it takes to help your child become the best they can be in math and science! I look forward to hearing from you!
